Here We Grow
May 17th through May 28th, 2008
Opening Reception: Saturday 17th of May, 7:00 – 11:00pm
Black Maria Gallery, in collaboration with Aphrodisio records, announces Here We Grow, a show of new original works by
The London Police
Flying Fortress
Galo
Pez
The London Police is a collective based in Amsterdam. They have been working together for several years to bring their Street Art to cities all over the world, and they’ve been quite successful. They push Urban Art a huge step away from graffiti tagging toward a unique brand of symbolic urban communication.
Flying Fortress, born and raised in Germany, is fortified with all sorts of funk and measure. The bold lines, colors and compositions are unmistakable. You don’t want to miss the invasion.
Galo is an Italian artist whose work has developed into a civilization of creatures that are sad, angry, curious and confused. He wanders the planet, performing, putting on workshops and exhibitions and chronicles his experiences on the walls where he works and resides.
Pez is a graffiti artist from Barcelona. He began painting graffiti in the late 1990’s, and over time his work has morphed into the pez (Spanish for fish) character he is known for today.
The Flying Fortress prints will be released at the opening. The artists will collaborate on a live painting at the gallery, which will then be auctioned off on e-bay. 10% of the proceeds will go to Monkey Sanctuary Trust - a unique environmental charity dedicated to promoting the welfare, conservation and survival of primates (www.monkeysanctuary.org).
